Coffee from Coatepec is some of the highest latitude grown coffee from around the globe. Just as higher elevations slow cherry maturation with cooler weather, Coatepec's position at the northern edge of the tropics means the coffee matures over a longer season with cooler, wetter nights, resulting in coffee full of sweetness and concentration of flavor.
Ernesto Perez, the producer responsible for this lot, is a young farmer taking over the family operation, focusing on improving the quality of coffee coming from his community. He's turning his attention to refining processing, cultivating microlots, and raising the earnings of his fellow community farmers.
