In all our years of roasting and sourcing coffee we can count on one hand the number of times we have offered a coffee from Rwanda. You can imagine, then, how excited we are to bring this lovely coffee from the Nyamasheke region of Rwanda and Red Fox Coffee Merchants to all of you.

The Kanzu Washing Station is sandwiched between the Nyungwe National Forest to the south and Lake Kivu to the north. At just over 1800 meters above sea level, Kanzu is surrounded by densely forested growing region, with altitudes as high 2,100 masl. The combination of altitude and subtropical vegetation result in tremendous amounts of rainfall and extended grow cycles. Kanzu is responsible for processing the coffee of over 500 producers in the region and yielding between 4 and 6 containers of coffee annually. This particular lot is made up exclusively of bourbon, a perennial favorite of ours for it's classic varietal character, smooth mouthfeel, and big body. The bourbons we are most familiar with come from South America and are often used in espresso for their classic profile, and while Kanzu ticks all of the same boxes, it also exhibits regional characteristics that work beautifully in concert with its more familiar aspects.

We tasted round, mild notes of citrus, pomelo, dark currant, and vanilla in this exceptional coffee from the Kanzu Washing Station.
